MIXING MINDS – PILAR JENNINGS

RATING: C-

A book that deals with integration/comparison of Buddhist practice and psychoanalysis centered on the relationships involved and methods used within each practice. While the author assumes a need for the presence of both within the troubled modern western life, I personally would put the need for psychoanalysis as an optional alternative for those stuck in the rut of convention. I feel that reflective contemplation and meditative experience leading to a stronger understanding and practice in conjunction with the 'teacher~student' instruction of Buddhism suffices when one is ready to question the norm rather than remain caught in its expectations.

I would recommend this book to those interested in comparing Buddhist practice and theory with psychoanalysis, those with a deep interest in either side, and those wishing to investigate the relationship aspect involved in both.
